Thousands await Kabaka Mutebi at St Mary’s Kitende for the Masaza Cup final.

KITENDE: Thousands of fans from different Buganda Kingdom counties have today stormed St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende to catch a glimpse of the Kabaka at the Masaza Cup final match.

The final is between Buwekula and Buddu. The two counties will be meeting for the second time in this year’s tournament, having played out to a 2-all stalemate in the group stages.

Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, is expected to be the chief guest as the two sides lock horns for this year’s Masaza silverware.

URN sampled some of the fans, who were full of joy. Derrick Kakaire told URN that he was neutral in the final, adding that he basically wanted to have a look at his king.

Usama Mawanda, a fan from Buddu County, said he came to cheer for his side as they battled in the final.

Gideon Mukisa, also another fan of Buddu, said he travelled a long distance from Kyanja to cheer for his side to win this edition of the Masaza Cup.

On the road to St. Mary’s Kitende, almost every trading centre is organised with people bedecked in the Buganda Kingdom cultural code of dress, with drums on the roadside as they wait for Kakabaka Mutebi.

This is the first Masaza Cup final to be graced by Kabaka Mutebi since 2019 when Bulemeezi won the trophy at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
