ENTEBBE: Three immigration staff at Entebbe were arrested for causing travellers to miss flights over alleged extortion.
Three immigration staff at Entebbe airport have been arrested in connection with causing a traveller to miss her flight while allegedly attempting to extract money from her.
The operation was carried out on Thursday, March 3, 2022, by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and police following a tipoff.
According to State House Anti-Corruption, Caroline Kabugo (shift supervisor), Martha Mboneko, and Julius Musalwa (immigration officers) allegedly abused their office when they caused a refugee to miss her flight by purporting that she had forged clearance documents from the Office of the Prime Minister, whereas she had not.
“The traveller has since incurred extra costs in excess of $1800. Investigations are being carried out, “State House Anti-Corruption” tweeted.
This is a developing story, and more details will follow.
